05 / FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this the official ShanaEncoder website?

No. This is an independent guide with no affiliation, authorization, or endorsement from the developer. Official destinations are labelled before you leave this site.

Is ShanaEncoder open source?

The ShanaEncoder GUI is distributed as freeware. The FFmpeg-related components have their own open-source licenses. Do not describe the entire GUI application as GPL software.

Do you host the installer?

The developer page is always the primary route. We may provide an independently labelled community mirror after two external full-file copies have identical size and SHA-256 values, and the published official hash matches when available.

Should I use CRF or a target bitrate?

Use a quality mode such as CRF when predictable visual quality matters. Use a calculated target bitrate when you must meet a file-size limit.

Can I use ShanaEncoder on macOS or Linux?

ShanaEncoder is a Windows application. HandBrake, Shutter Encoder, and FFmpeg are common cross-platform alternatives.
